::::TRIGGER WARNING READ BELOW:::::

BEFORE YOU LISTEN: You will hear of a heightened hospital experience and also a honourable journey of birth and a death. If you are not in a position to hear this now especially if you are about to birth, please leave this episode and make sure you come back to it at another time. This journey is a beautiful one and definitely needs to be shared as you will hear of a life that what we feel may be very short lived was filled with love, support and choice. This is especially helpful for anyone facing or have been though Trisomy or chromosome issues in pregnancy.

Kylie and Daniel

This episode is true journey through all that embraces us of motherhood. Kylie is joining us today and sharing her experiences of her 3 births. Her first birth in 2001 talks about her experience in a hospital setting with private health care. Like the other Circle of Birth podcasts before, we get to see in Kylie’s journey how support and continuity of care is so important when you make your choices in birth. This birth story is a good example of why hiring a Doula would be a great asset for your birth journey! Kylie after her experience welcomed their son into the world.

From here Kylie talks about her next pregnancy with Daniel. You will find the link to her book in the resources below with Daniels story. During her pregnancy Kylie found that Daniel was diagnosed with Trisomy 13 also known in the medical world as ‘not compatible with life’. Kylie and her husband faced many choices, yet through out this whole story you will hear of the absolute love and suppourt they surrounded them selves with. Kylie will talk about this story in a very informative way, and for any once that is facing a brith with chromosomal issues then you will be able to find some suppourt and networking here as well as listening to how Kylie coped with the grief of his passing. This part of her journy is absolutely honourable, and as she mentioned in her podcast she listened to her intuition, her husbands support, chosen care providers and that of her midwives. Kylie and her husband brought Daniel into the world at their chosen safe space at home, he gave them so many gifts in his 38 hours of life and from this story you will hear how his life was honoured, accepted and full of love until he passed in his mothers arms, this warmth and love is all he knew.

After three years and to almost the same date as Daniel, Saffron was conceived! Kylie will tell of her empowerment in this home birth with Saffy and this again was a gift from her growth as a woman and Daniel’s journey. She has come from what she described as feeling like the vulnerable little girl in her first brith, to the empowered mother and her beautiful support around her. I am absolutely honoured to hear Kylie’s journey. I truely believe we all deserve a chance to honour life and death in the way that is best and safest for those involved. This is why I have created these podcasts as journeys like these need to be shared to support all the familys that may be facing or have been through a similar situation.

This story is of empowerment and the gifts that life can bring to us even though it may be short, the messages are universal and infinate. Thank you Daniel and thank you to your beautiful mother for sharing your journey and that of your brother and sister.

Kylie wraps her story up well by this.. “Its all about our choices. Sometimes we get to caught up in the home vs hospital thing, when its really about the continuity and support.”

Kylies journey now:
Kylie Sheffield – mum, raw food chef, naturopathy student and passionate advocate of the right to make informed choices about the stuff that goes into our bodies. As a long-time vegetarian and sometime sporty-type person, I’ve always been pretty health conscious. But it was the birth of my eldest son in 2001 that really got me started on the ‘real food’ gig.
After eating clean whilst breastfeeding, it just made sense to encourage whole foods during weaning and beyond. So began my journey as a Mean Mum (you know the type – deprives her kids of hotdogs and softies and boycotts everything from Big Macs to bacon). My kids have eaten more carrot sticks, sugar-free wholemeal muffins and buckwheat bickies than Farnsy’s done farewell tours and “PLEASE not another fruit platter!” is the chant that precedes every class party and school fete.

Food of the heart! This is the famous raw, vegan slice that made a pregnant woman cry with joy!
